LG G4 vs LG V10: Impressions

Let me start by admitting to you that I am an LG fanatic. I love the buttons on the back of the phone, I love the ultra high definition screens, I love the battery life and I will probably keep buying LG phones from now until the day they merge with Apple and start making iPhones. The LG G2 was my first LG phone, and to this day is the best phone I have ever owned.

It's a little late for me to do a review on the G3, but let me tell you they did not bring that product together as cleanly as they did the G2.

That trend continued with the G4, which I just replaced last week with the LG V10.

The G4 was a buggy phone. It ran hot, it would lag periodically, the battery life didn't live up to my expectations from a G series phone, and the build quality was questionable. The outlook for the G series was trending down for me within a week of purchasing my G4- it wasn't as good as the G3 which wasn't as good as the G2 which is NOT a good trend to see.

The most annoying thing to me about the G4 was actually aesthetic- for all its lagginess and how sweaty the hot little battery pack made my palm, it held up pretty well against it's market competition- but that leather back was not designed to last. Within a week of my purchase, each corner had rubbed away from repeated entry/removal from my pocket, revealing some sort of sick black underbelly that I didn't realize leather possessed. After 6 months of use, my leather case was an orange and black cheetah print joke rotting away in the palm of my hand.

Enter the LG-V10. I could not wait to get this phone because I just knew that the talented makers of the G2 could not fail me as miserably as they did with the G4 twice in one year. They have not only avoided failure, a week into my ownership I can confidently say that this phone is a resounding success.

The material surrounding the ultra high definition screen is mostly some ultra-durable hybrid of rubber and plastic, which strikes a delightful balance between firm and sticky. The polymer is accented and reinforced by stainless steel rods running down either side of the case. And by stainless steel, I don't mean plastic coated in stainless paint, I mean the real Mccoy, the genuine article, glorious, sturdy, scratch proof and hefty steel running down the sides of the phone. It looks spectacular and makes me feel more confident in the build quality. In addition to this, the phone seams are very tightly integrated, and even with a removable case the phone feels like a unibody device.

Aside from the aesthetic appeal and comfort of the textured alien super plastic coating the device, it doesn't suffer from any of the software related ills my G4 did. It's fast, blazingly fast, and it never struggles to do what I'm asking it to do. The fingerprint scanner on the unlock button functions so quickly that it's not noticeable, and the battery consistently lasts me an entire day even though I'm a heavy user.

It runs cool, it runs all day, and it looks good doing it.

MY RATING:
                     LG V10 - 5/5
                     LG G4   - 2/5
